WinBoard downloads

This page contains packages that bundle some WinBoard versions with additional supporting software. They should run 'out of the box'.

WinBoard 4.8

This is an installer package that contains WinBoard 4.8.0, timeseal and timestamp for connecting to ICS, the Polyglot adapter for running UCI engines, and some example engines (including those for Chess variants).

The installer allows you to associate certain file types with WinBoard, so that WinBoard will open them when a file of this type is double-clicked. (E.g. for viewing games in PGN files, positions in FEN files, or starting WinBoard with the options specified in an XOP file.

WinBoard 4.beta

This is the latest development of WinBoard, provided as a zip file. You can unzip it in a place of your choice, where it will create a directory WinBoard that contains all files. The WinBoard version in it differs from WinBoard 4.8 in that it can use anti-aliased piece images with transparent background as external bitmaps, and it is packaged with a set of such bitmaps. The bundle contains the UCI2WB adapter for running UCI engines, and is configured to use that instead of Polyglot.

This bundle is structured a bit different from that in the 4.8 installer. It does contain some engines, but other ones than the 4.8 bundle. If you liked the old collection better you can upgrade that by copying the winboard.exe file from the zip bundle to replace the old one.
