Paco Shako

Pako Shako (Esperanto for Peace Chess) is a Chess variant played with the usual FIDE pieces on an 8x8 board. But it uses a different mechanism for moves that normally would be captures: instead of the piece that was occupying the square being removed from the game, the old and new piece will embrace each other, coexisting peacefully on the same square. Such 'hugging' pairs can be moved by both players, according to the rules of their piece in the pair, but only to empty squares. Lone pieces can enter a square occupied by a hugging pair, and will release the piece of the same color from the embrace, taking its place. The released piece must then be moved away in the same turn. (If this is not possible, you cannot enter the square.) Such a released piece can do everything a lone piece can, including breaking up an existing hug, so that you can get entire chains of releases in one turn.
