Alpha-Omega Chess
is a Chess variant on a 16x12 board, designed by Ace on chess.com.
The Lion is a multi-capturing piece:
it can make two King moves per turn (but also just one, if it wishes),
changing direction between them as long as it does not return to its starting square.
It does not have to stop if the first step was a capture.
The possibility to capture protected pieces with impunity,
escaping again in 7 possible directions before you get the chance to recapture,
makes the Lion an extremely strong piece, much stronger than a Queen.
Three pieces (Pawn, Jack and King's Gambit) have initial non-capture moves,
i.e. they can only make these moves when they have not moved before.
These moves cannot jump over anything, and are highlighted in dark green in this applet.
Pawns and Jack's can e.p.-capture each other on the squares they skip over this way.
The applet does not implement that yet.
Queens can castle too (which is called 'Guarding').
Like the King, they move 3 squares towards the Rook to do that,
and the Rook then ends up next to them on the other side, as usual.
